Our Story
The vision was to create a place that was warm and inviting and that carried unique and interesting items.
I wanted a place that would compel people to tell others about a shop they found in Fortville – a shop they need to experience in Fortville.
Outre first opened in May of 2008 with a vision to diversify our family owned and operated furniture manufacturer based in LaGrange, Indiana. Today we continue that mission, but we also wanted to bring something new and different to where our family calls home. After moving our family to Hancock County in 2021, it has been a goal of mine to find a new home for Outre in Fortville.
I truly feel people want to get back to having an experience when it comes to interacting with the people and businesses in their community. The vision was to create a place that was warm and inviting and that carried unique and interesting items.
I wanted a place that would compel people to tell others about a shop they found in Fortville.
Outre has always been about family, and there is a good chance when you come into our store that you will meet most of mine. While Outre has become the source of custom upholstery for commercial design firms, interior designers, and homeowners in central Indiana, we also want to become a destination for friendly and unique experience in Fortville. I told my daughter that I don’t want people to read about us on the internet, I want them to experience Outre Mercantile.
